Season's Readings!
I’m not here to alarm you, but the holidays are here.
I’m not here to alarm you, but the holidays are here. Not approaching, not on the horizon—here. And if you, like me, still think it’s mid-October and the cranberry sauce can be figured out later, I’m sorry to tell you: it’s gift guide season.
But this one is different. This isn’t a guide full of links to air fryers or subscriptions to things you’ll forget to cancel. This is for us—the readers, the page-turners, the people who still get giddy when someone gives us a bookmark like it’s a diamond tennis bracelet.
Welcome to my first (and possibly annual) Season’s Readings: 10 Gifts for Book Lovers.
These are things I either already love, have given, wish I’d invented, or secretly hope someone gives me. And they’re all bookish. A little nerdy. A little nostalgic. Mostly inexpensive. Mostly from small makers. All cozy.

Each day for ten days, I’ll post one book-lover gift on my Instagram and Substack with a little backstory or why it made me gasp. (Spoiler: one of them features a brooch with Peter Rabbit on a lemon. I cannot explain why this moved me so deeply.)
You can follow along or just check in when you need a last-minute something for your book club friend, your weird uncle who annotates sci-fi paperbacks, or yourself. I’ll never tell.
Come join me for some merry mischief, literary longing, and a little old-fashioned delight.
THE BIRDWATCHER is Available Now

A brilliant grad student turned high-priced escort, Felicity Wild is charged with killing her two most devoted clients for their insurance money. Her childhood best friend, Reenie Bigelow, a fashion journalist covering the trial, is certain that Felicity is not capable of murder. So why won’t she say a single word in her own defense? Why would an innocent woman willingly go to prison? Reenie has to find out—but she knows Felicity, and she knows one thing for sure: under no circumstances would Felicity ever tell a lie.
You can now find my newest novel, THE BIRDWATCHER everywhere good books are sold.
“Jacquelyn Mitchard’s The Birdwatcher is at once a gripping mystery and a nuanced portrait of a complicated friendship. With her trademark insight and compassion, Mitchard explores the ways our pasts can both bind and betray us. Her clear‑eyed prose captures the stubborn hope that propels us to keep searching for the truth. I couldn’t put it down.”
— Adrienne Brodeur, bestselling author of Wild Game and Little Monsters
I’m so excited to finally be able to share this story with you.

How could the holidays possibly already be here? That just can't be true. 😮🤔😲
